Ok, here’s the conclusion to the JS Sloane products I have. I will be getting more in next week sometime so be on the lookout for those. To end this run of products, I will be using their Heavyweight Brilliantine. Joann sent me over this one to check out and as you guys know I like to end a line with their heaviest hold.
This one comes in the same packaging as their Mediumweight. A dark brown plastic tub with a metal screw top lid. The lid has the same band across it with the dapper guy in the center. On the front of the tub is the same diamond with their name it it. Only this time the rays are silver instead of yellow and it has “Heavyweight” instead of “Mediumweight.” The back of the tub has the same stuff as well, blurb, directions, caution, ingredient list and weight info.
When you get the lid off of this one, you see the same color as the last one. Now because these aren’t clear, you can’t easily tell that this one is the heavier hold. The only way I could tell the difference was that this one is a shade darker than the medium. The scent on this one is the same as the medium, clean with a hint of fruit flowers. The scent seems slightly stronger with the heavy.
I dug my finger into this one and was met with the same awesome texture of grease meets water based. Only this one is about twice as thick in texture. And it has more bounce to it like water bases do. I really like the texture of these pomades a lot.
It was also about twice as tacky in my hands when I spread it around. The scent got nice and strong when I had it in my hands too. I really like when a good smelling pomade gets stronger out of the tin. This one didn’t seem nearly as shiny in my palms. Usually heavier water bases have less shine, just like petro pomades do. Maybe this one will be an exception though, one can hope.
As I expected, it went in more tacky than the medium. It kind of wanted to stick on top of my hair like a wax does. But I had enough on my hands to coat my hair pretty good without having to dip back in. Surprisingly this one combed easier than the medium did. I’ve only seen this with a couple other pomades out there. It definitely is a nice little surprise though!
I was able to sculpt my pomp really easily and quickly with this stuff. I was literally done with my hair in under 3 minutes. I usually have to mess with it for 5-10 minutes, sometimes longer. So I was more than happy with how well and quickly this pomade styled. And my hair looked pretty darn good with this one in it too!
I got about the same amount of compliments on my hair with this one in it as with the medium. However I was a little more pleased with how this one looked. Unfortunately though, my hair didn’t have any shine to it after it dried. My hair was left completely matte with this pomade in it. Oh well, they can’t all be shiny, and I wouldn’t want them to. I really don’t want my hair to look exactly the same every day. Just like with all other water bases, more hold means more hardening. This one hardened up pretty good after it dried. On the plus side, my hair didn’t move at all throughout the day. This one would be great for windy days.
I took a picture of my hair when I got home from work and was changing. The only thing out of place was a patch of hair at the bottom of the back of my head. And it did gap a little bit up on the top right side of my head. I really need a haircut, and soon! Other than that everything stayed in place all day long. And since it is a water based like the medium, it washes out with just water.
The second time around, I got a really nice full and round pomp going. I had about a 1/2″ taller pomp the second time too. Like with the medium I enjoyed it even more the second time. It combed even easier and styled easier but better. The only thing I would’ve liked was if this one shined up really good. There’s nothing I like more than a tall, round pomp that’s shiny. This stuff, along with their medium, left my hair slightly dry and coarse after washing it out. But a little of their shampoo takes care of that, or conditioner will also work to make your hair softer.
Overall, I really dig this water based. It comes in a cool container, has a great scent, the texture is nice, it combs and styles really easily, makes your hair look good, and holds great. What’s not to love? I recommend this one for you guys that like heavier holding pomades. And I will picking this line back up when I get the other 3 products in the mail. Until then I’m getting back to some waxy pomades!! So stick around to see what’s next in line.
Stay fresh fellas!
